Fun Monday - Shoot 'em Up
My bride, Molly of Return of the White Robin, is the host of this Fun Monday. The assignment this week is to describe a happy memory from your childhood. If possible, include pictures with your reminiscing.
One of the happy memories of my youth is the memory of building various kinds of models. My brother and I did a lot of models. He was actually the better builder. Sometimes a model car was assembled and glued together; and then those original kits might be taken apart and built again. Maybe that was due to being without much money available to buy new kits. However, it was probably as Mom thought, we were destructive. To do a rebuild would prove her wrong. She would think this was a creative act and not just destruction. However, my brother and I did shoot up nearly all the rest of our models with BB guns. Maybe, Mom was right after all.
Here is a picture provided by my wife of a model car from my past youth. In 1960, this model won “Best of Show” at a hobby store. Since so many different components came together, this was very positive experience for me. The model has a 1956 Continental roof, a ’32 Deuce Roadster body and engine, and an Indianapolis racer front end. There are many other parts, such as the carb intakes from Revell’s tug boat.

Thank you joining us on this Fun Monday. If the readers could only see your award-winning model in person, they could see the great workmanship.
Wooaaa! Model creativity is great. I used to do models of airplanes and remember how difficult it was to get the correct pieces together.
Thanks for the memory.
Hmmm Im just imagining two little boys shooting their hard made models! Oooh I do not like guns! Im sure my boys would love this idea though!
When our son was young, he was very interested in planes!! As I loved him of course, I made a special deal out of helping him put together all the kits of so many, we had a lot of fun. And hopefully great memories for him too. [His bedroom ceiling was actually a scene of clouds, with all kinds of the finished planes hanging from the drywall!!!]
My Fun Monday is shared too, I hope you can stop by and read it, if you haven't already --since I'm just now going through the Mr. Linky's at Mollys before I get to my own comments to read who has visited!! Take care, have a great day. [PS --you have to scroll below my 'walk in the park' photos to reach my F M entry!!]
Great post. Build, take apart, rebuild, shoot. This has been a wonderful Fun Monday.
Gosh I can remember my brother trying to make up models but he never really succeeded and would definitely not have won a prize~ well maybe the booby-prize!
Wow! Aren't you the clever one!
Loved your post. Do you think Lego's are the "Models" of the kids in this day and age. My little grandson makes incredible things out of Lego's. Thanks for sharing.
Judy
models! omigod, i have forgotten how my brother and father used to make those together!
thanks for playing this week!
What a brilliant memory, and the little car looks gorgeous.
Wonderful model! My husband LOVED models when he was a kid. I think he still does.
Congrats on best in show win and having the trophy to prove it. I'm still mulling over tearing apart your fine models in order to start all over again. Is it just the challenge of whether you could pull it off twice? Won't even try to understand the gun shots! LoL
you brought back a wonderful memory of my younger brother...he was always building model cars!!
Here I would have said it (your model) was a pretty blue, never got into the model cars or cars for that matter. Black cat fire cracker were our choose of destruction. Thanks for playing
I remember my brother workin gon models. I never understood why.
Now my grandsons build the most amazing things with legos. They take hours and are so deep into it
My son never liked to put things together, lol !
Like a lot of others I went through the model stage but was never very good at building them.
I think a lot of little boys are destructive. But sometimes in being destructive the creative side can come out. Your model car looks cool!
Wow- that is a fabulous looking model! Great work!!
What happen to the big air craft carrier you made? Or the big B-52 Bomber? Mom always liked you best...she had shelves in the main room of the house with his models on them. AND made ME dust them.
I sure didn't see my dolls sitting around anywhere.
